Transatlantic Program - Young Technology Leaders: Intelligent Transportation Communication Systems

Welcome to the fourth Transatlantic Program - Young Technology Leaders (TAP-YTL) of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM)!
TAP-YTL offers selected delegation members the chance to participate in an 8-day trip to Germany focused on "Intelligent Transportation Communication Systems" from May 20-28, 2012. Germany is recognized as a worldwide leader for intelligent transportation communications systems due to a combination of prominent research institutes, premium automotive suppliers and an extremely sophisticated transportation infrastructure.

The program consists of visits in the following cities:
- Munich: electric mobility communication innovation at Siemens Corporate Research and Technologies; introduction to "the Software Car" & networking with peers at research hub fortiss GmbH, Technical University Munich; Car-to-X communication at BMW
- Frankfurt region: introduction to German traffic modeling & management at the Center for Integrated Traffic Systems ZiV, Darmstadt University of Technology; new communication systems at Germany's largest regional public transportation association RMV; advanced mobile applications, data storage and security measures at Deutsche Bahn (TBC)
- Berlin: presentation of the world's first satellite-based truck toll system toll collect; outlook on transportation communication policy regulations and data protection measures at a federal level at the German Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development, networking reception with the Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM)
- Optional intensive German language course preparation for participants at the Goethe-Institut in Chicago, IL, May 12, 2012
The TAP-YTL series is designed to bring future decision makers from the US and Germany together at the beginning of their professional careers, or late in their studies, to build networks and promote transfer of know-how through content-driven encounters and experiences. Past TAP-YTL delegations have focused on "Sustainable Architecture & Urban Planning", "Logistics & Transportation", and "Water Management". After the trip, participants are integrated into the TAP Alumni Network to stay connected with each other and to the broader German American business community.
2012 TAP-YTL Eligibility Requirements:
- Young Professionals and Students in the fields Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Information Technology, and Urban Planning with an interest in Communication Technology for Intelligent Vehicles and Transportation Infrastructure
- Basic knowledge of German - German majors and minors are welcome!
- Interest in modern Germany
- Program fee $550 per person plus individual flight costs. TAP-YTL covers all overnight stays, meals, cultural programming and transportation that are apart of the offical agenda while in Germany.
