Annual Transatlantic Program Alumni Reunion

Ambassador Klaus Scharioth welcomed some 40 alumni of the Transatlantic Program (TAP) to the Berlin Bar of the residence to mark the fourth Transatlantic Program Alumni Reunion on January 16, 2009.

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Scharioth praised the program, saying it was an outstanding example of transatlantic cooperation in the area of youth and adult education.  Following introductory remarks by Ms. Simone Pohl, President and CEO of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (IL), two alumni presidents of past years described the experiences they had during the stays in Germany.  The subsequent discussion between Ambassador Scharioth and the alumni covered a wide array of topics, ranging from transatlantic cooperation within the context of environmental sustainability, to renewable energies, to the joint fight against global warming.  Following a stimulating round of discussion, the participants delved deeper in the topics in informal conversations.
